University of Tennessee – Ayres Hall Renovation

Knoxville, Tennessee

Since 1921, Ayres Hall has stood as an iconic structure on “The Hill” at the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus. In 2007, ESG began the drawings for a complete renovation to this historic structure. The entire 80,000 square feet of this facility was completely renovated and brought up to new building code standards. A complete new mechanical system was installed utilizing variable air volume boxes and chilled and hot water from the campus central system. An automatic fire protection system was added throughout, and all new plumbing fixtures and piping systems. Total construction cost was $14.5M. This project was designed to LEED design criteria for existing buildings. ESG designed the mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
