University of Tennessee – Fred D. Brown Jr. Residence Hall

Knoxville, Tennessee

ESG was selected to provide the engineering for this new 700 student dormitory on the University of Tennessee Knoxville campus. When construction started in 2012, this was the first new dormitory built on the UTK campus in over 40 years. This project towers 7 floors in height with over 250,000 square feet. The facility includes 242  2- person standard suites and 44  4-person deluxe suites. Other amenities include two restaurants, electronic post office, student laundry, workout facility, art gallery, and recreation room. Each floor has a conference room, central living area, and internet lounge. The design was compliant with the latest Energy Code and the State of Tennessee Sustainability Guidelines. The construction was completed in 2014 at a cost of $59M.  ESG designed the HVAC, Plumbing, Fire Protection, and Electrical portions of this project.
