Gibbs Middle School

Knox County, Tennessee

In 2015, the Knox County Board of Education approved the construction of two new middle schools. Both schools would be Design/Build Projects. ESG was part of the Design/Build team on both projects for M/E/P/FP. One middle school was to be constructed in Northeast Knox County in the Gibbs community and the other in the Hardin Valley Community in West Knox County.

This facility was designed around an 800 student core. It included Administrative areas, Media Center, Gymnasium, Auditorium, Science Labs, Computer Labs, Kitchen and Cafeteria, and general purpose classrooms. Engineered systems included water source heat pumps and gas roof top units, individual room temperature controls, fresh air units, water saving plumbing fixtures, instantaneous gas fired water heaters, high efficiency LED lighting, energy saving lighting controls, integrated data cabling system, and an automatic sprinkler system. Rouse Construction was the Construction Manager for this project. Construction cost for this 145,000 square ft. facility was $23.6M. The facility opened to students and faculty in August 2018.
